SPI brings people of all ages together to explore their natural curiosity and have fun! Our staff members help community members engage with science, technology, engineering, art, and math through family play. We are looking for community-oriented individuals to join our team.
Currently hiring for:
1. Visitor Experience Associate (PT) - This POSITION may be offered as a either a short term/temporary position or as a longer term opportunity depending on SPI's needs at the time of application.
Employees in this role are the first to welcome participants to our play-based learning space. They set the tone that it is going to be a fun time and that our staff is glad they are here! These team members maintain a clean and inviting community center, process admission, track visitors, and engage with guests. They also lend their creative ideas (and extra hands!) to program development, by assisting team members for whom this is a primary responsibility.
2. Program Coordinator, Intern (paid, PT, seasonal, summer 2023)
In this role, the coordinator will help devise and support the implementation of engaging SPI programming occurring both inside SPI Spot and off-site during summer enrichment camps. The idea; candidate for this will be pursuing a degree in education, have already graduated with an education credential and will have prior applicable experiences as outlined in the position description.
3. Office Manager (part time) - THIS POSITION IS FILLED!
Are you an organized person who gets that zen feeling from seeing processes through all the required steps, happily checking off items on a to-do list? Do you take pride in maintaining an orderly office space or in problem-solving to address scheduling puzzles? We are seeking applicants with those tendencies and with a minimum of 3 years relevant office experience to match! The person in this role must comfortable working in close proximity to creative people who may have different, complementary skill sets which mandate shifting gears and re-prioritizingt tasks as needed.

Scheduling can bend to accommodate life events and circumstances that arise. Employees enjoy time off for certain holidays, 5 of which are paid days off. They will receive as a benefit an annual membership to SPI which also gets named members of their family/household free and reduced admission to dozens of other science centers and childrens museums throughout the state and country.
Know before you apply
SPI staff are expected - per board policy - to be up to date on standard vaccines and also against COVID-19 (in accordance with CDC recommendation). Inside our space currently, masks are not required for visitors or staff as Knox County is rated as "low" risk by the CDC. This is subject to change in accordance with community risk factors as indicated by CDC (and/or other variables) or the emergence of other health outbreaks.
