Job Title: Unpaid Internships


SPI is taking applications for internships in 2018.  These are volunteer positions with flexible hours.  SPI is willing to work with educational institutions to award credit for this experience.  To apply for this position submit our employment application above and specify that you are interested in an unpaid internship as well as what sort of project you might be interested and qualified to accomplish.  Include a cover letter.  Applications can be mailed to [email protected] or sent to SPI at 400 S. Main St. Mount Vernon OH,  43050. 

SPI interns will assist with Science Programming for children or special projects such as publicity, marketing, event planning, or data collection/analysis depending on the interns interest and skill.  Interns may also be involved with more traditional volunteer work operating our discovery space. 

Responsibilities:
  • plan, organize, and conduct a special project
  • interact with the public in a positive manner
  • interact with all ages including caregivers, school age and young children
  • work with other volunteers and staff
  • operate SPI at specific times
    • supervise visitors
    • keep track of money
    • keep accurate records
    • maintain safe and clean environment
    • other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications/Abilities Required:
  • good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • ability to work independently as well as with others and solve problems 
  • excellent organizational skills
  • exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic
  • team player
  • reliable and punctual
  • polite, friendly and service oriented
  • experienced with children
  • have basic computer skills including experience with google docs or similar applications 
  • responsible with money
  • background check upon hire
  • science background
  • be available First Fridays, most Saturdays, and Sundays
 
ADA Requirements:
  • required to monitor youth participants and activities
  • required to lead programs
  • required to communicate with youth participants and other staff
  • required to prepare program materials
  • required to lift up to 30 pounds
  • move at children's pace, stand, kneel, or sit for extended periods of time
