SPI is a non-profit play space which enhances the Knox County community by bringing people of all ages together to explore their natural curiosity through play.
We are looking for 1 to 2 new employees to help operate our facility, welcome and engage visitors, suggest and/or facilitate interactive activities, clean up and maintain the space, and complete other duties as assigned. We need to fill shifts of 10 to 25 hours per week, which would include weekday hours and a share of Saturday shifts on a rotating schedule.
Candidates should have an interest in promoting play-based learning and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) concepts and processes. No formal professional credentials in a STEAM fields or particular level of teaching licensure is required to excel in this position, although many former educators and educators-in-training have found SPI a great place to work! The ideal candidate is a positive, high-energy, team player who has experience working with children in a preschool/childcare, camp, library, museum or k-12 setting and/or otherwise has experience interacting with families or customers.
Some degree of comfort with computers is also necessary to perform basic job duties. Associates are expected to process credit card transactions, enter information into a computer database, view their work schedule online and enter events (like scheduled field trips and birthday parties) into a shared google calendar, etc.

SPI is accepting applicants for summer internships. These are volunteer positions with flexible hours. SPI is willing to work with educational institutions to award credit for this experience. SPI interns may assist with science programming for children or support our general operations in the areas of publicity, marketing, event planning, or data collection/analysis. Interns may also be involved with more traditional volunteer work operating our discovery space.
