SPI presents opportunities for family engagement and play-based learning through the lenses of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). This intern will assist in developing engaging activities for use inside our drop-in play space. And will support the successful implementation of outdoor summer enrichment programming for kids ages 5 -11.
Responsibilities:
Qualifications: Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be creative, collaborative, flexible. Able to be outdoors for extended periods of time. Must have a driver's license and access to their own vehicle since programming is spread out at multiple locations.
This position would be appropriate for someone who has previously worked or volunteered at other children’s museums, science centers, summer camps, after school programs, or has applicable classroom experience. Ideal for current college students (or recent college grads with an education degree) who are pursuing a career in education. It is not necessary for candidates to be pursuing an education degree, however, if they otherwise have applicable personal or work experiences which demonstrate interest in and talent for this kind of work and can articulate that in their cover letter.
The person in this position can expect to work 15-25 hours per week, up to 30 certain weeks as arranged.

- help devise and set up: a. themed table top activities/stations for self-guided play (with compelling prompts, instructions and materials presented by us and/or b. short 5 minute “pop up” demonstrations (facilitated by staff and/or volunteer) that engage families in exploring STEM concepts more;
- monitor and troubleshoot summer camp operations, provide support to camp instructors or partner venues as needed (note: intern will not be at camp all day, every day - just check-ins, deliveries, occasional assistance with particular activities, help communicating with parents and volunteers, etc.) ;
- ensure that all necessary materials for camps are stocked and at the right venue(s) or put away when no longer needed;
- help plan and facilitate additional programming for various community events/festivals/concerts to which SPI has committed;
- fill in as needed inside SPI Spot, engaging families and assisting other staff with basic operations;
- other duties as assigned.
