We are looking for one or two part time employee beginning in May. We are are looking for people who can fill the following roles, and may hire for either role depending on the experience of job seeker
Part-time Employee/Program Assistant
The part-time employee will interact with the public, specifically families, young children and school age children. Responsibilities include conducting and explaining simple science activities with children and their caregivers during designated programming times. This part-time employee will supervise visitors and work with volunteers. Some opening and closing responsibilities and front desk financial transactions are included in daily operations of the space. Employee will maintain a safe and clean environment and the job includes light cleaning. Other duties may occur as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
Responsibilities:
· Interact with the public in a positive manner
· Interact with all ages, including school age and young children
· Conduct and explain simple activities with children and their caregivers and share the wonder of science
· Supervise visitors
· Work with volunteers
· Keep track of money
· Keep accurate records
· Open/Close business depending on shift
· Maintain safe and clean environment; job includes light cleaning
. Other duties as deemed necessary by manager or director
Summer Educational Programming Assistant
Purpose and Description - SPI Summer Programming assistants will assist in the implementation of weekly science activities for children at three local city parks and SPI Spot in downtown Mount Vernon, Ohio. Duties include transportation of supplies for activities to the parks. Summer interns may also assist in operating SPI Spot primarily on First Fridays and and help out during other special events.
Responsibilities:
· Organize, and conduct simple science activities with children at local parks and at SPI Spot
· Interact with the public in a positive manner
· Interact with all ages, including school age and young children
· Work with volunteers
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Abilities required:
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently and solve problems
· Excellent organizational skills
· Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic.
· Team player
· Reliable and punctual
· Polite, friendly and service oriented
· Experienced with children
· Have basic computer skills including experience with google docs or similar applications.
· Responsible with money
· Ability to tolerate mess
· Background check when hired
· Science background
· Be available First Fridays evenings and Saturdays
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
· Required to monitor youth participants and activities.
· Required to lead programs.
· Required to communicate with youth participants and other staff.
· Required to prepare program materials
· Required to lift up to 30 lbs, move at children’s pace, stand, kneel or sit for extended periods of time.
